From Howie:
Thanks to Dyanne Roper for sending me this site. Sorry I missed the 40th, but I am glad to have found this site. I read almost all the comments, and we are still the greatest class to come out of DHS. I am married to a wonderful woman who is an OR Nurse and together we have a small LLC, SMART CORP. So much has happened to us all. Who knew Gary could act, and that so many of us would turn to be so successful in so many different careers.
So, here ya go. I graduated from the University of Tampa with Chuck Conti and became a Phys. Ed. teacher as I had always wanted to be. Life takes many different twists and turns, and with some arm twisting, I finally formed a partnership with Mark Taylor and directed my own Insurance Agency in Wilton, Ct. Mark and I enjoyed some success, but after 12 year, I wanted to go back to teaching. I had become a fairly successful Soccer and Basketball coach and the south was calling. (Frankly Scarlet I don't give a damn) I moved to Durham, NC and met my wife there. I continued to coach and wrote the first of three published books. Two other books would follow in 2004 and 2007. I am currently working on the sequel to "A game for All Seasons" and "Overtime."
I have been coaching Basketball and Soccer for over 30 years. I coached all 3 of my own kids in Weston, Ct., and both of my wife's girls in Durham, NC. We moved to Little River, SC which is in North Myrtle Beach in 2007, and I am on the faculty at Southeastern Community College, in Whiteville, NC. I am helping build a new Soccer Club in Myrtle Beach, where I am the Tournament Director for the Myrtle Beach Cup.
I'm sorry I missed ya'll, geesh that is so southern, hopefully we will all be around for 50. I am in touch with Bob Radocy, who lives in Boulder, Co. and Mark Taylor who is on the Cape, and now Dyanne. I am always proudest of the fact that I graduated from DHS, played for John Maher and Vic Crump, and grew up in a time that was exciting in Darien, Ct. I love this site, and wish you all the best. Especially Dallas, whom without his great hands, I would have never been "the toe." I will meet you on the field at our 50th for a P.A.T. Dallas, we'll get John to snap the ball.
Best to you all
Howie "the toe" Thompson
